Bioorganic Chemistry is a fast growing chemistry discipline that combines Organic chemistry and Biochemistry. It involves the study of biological processes using chemical methods and applies the principles and techniques of organic chemistry to address problems of biological importance and takes inspiration from biology to develop new chemical processes. Biological molecules are synthesized using methods of organic chemistry, and examined their structure and kinetics of biochemical reactions. The main focus of bioorganic chemistry is the understanding of the underlying molecular basis of biological processes. It is closely associated with Biomemitic chemistry and with bioinorganic chemistry and biophysical organic chemistry when dealing with molecular recognition.
Bioorganic chemistry is an interdisciplinary and interface subject finding wide application mainly in the area of medicinal chemistry. Understanding the biological processes in terms of organic chemistry paves way to the development of new and better therapeutics for many ailments such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, asthma etc. The reserach in this area focuses on the study of enzymes, metabolic pathways, development of mechanism based enzyme inhibitors, elucidation of mechanism and structure etc leading to the devleopment of new drugs.
Experts in organic and bioorganic chemistry will lead the lectures and will focus on the basic aspects of organic principles used in Bioorganic chemistry starting from fundaments to advanced levels and provides valuables insight into the challenges in this field.
The programme is mainly intended for Master students of chemistry & biology, research scholars in chemistry/Biology and young faculty members of colleges/university departments who would like to pursue research in bioorganich chemistry
