Colloquium on Spectroscopy

Colloquium on Spectroscopy 5 - 7 May 2017 at  SRIBS, Pampady, Kottayam

Spectroscopy has evolved as an ultimate way for structure elucidation of compounds. It has helped in understanding the structure and properties of inorganic, organic and biological systems. It is also used in astronomy, and remote sensing. It relies on the measurement of radiation intensity as afunction of wavelength when light interacts with matter. The spectroscopic investigations were central to the development of quantum mechanics.

The colloquium will cover the following areas of spectroscopy: Theory of spectroscopy, UV-Vis, IR, NMR, Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy. Applications on the various spectroscopic techniques in the structure elucidation will be the focal theme of the colloquium. Attempt will also be made to show the application of spectroscopy in biological systems especially, protein binding, imaging etc.  The targeted audience are MSc Chemistry/Biology students, College Teachers and Researchers.

Total seats: 60
