KSCSTE – Srinivasa Ramanujan Memorial Lecture in connection with National Mathematics Day

December 22, 2021 (Wednesday) from 3:00 – 4:00 pm

KSCSTE is organizing the Srinivasa Ramanujan Memorial Lecture Series in connection with National Mathematics Day 2021 celebrations.

The first webinar in the series will be on December 22, 2021 (Wednesday) from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.

Speaker: Dr. Anish Ghosh, Faculty at School of Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai & Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee 2021 in Mathematical Sciences (https://sites.google.com/view/anishghosh/home)

Title: Exploring the world of Diophantine approximation
The ancient subject of Diophantine approximation studies how well one can approximate real numbers by rational ones. Ergodic theory, on the other hand, is a relatively recent discipline where one tries to understand “chaotic systems” using mathematics. It originated in the study of the motion of gas molecules. The talk will explain how these two seemingly different subjects are related.
