Webinar on Stereochemistry Organised by KSCSTE – SRIBS on October 8 – 10, 2021
Stereochemistry involves the study of the relative spatial arrangements of atoms in molecules. This requires a three dimensional understanding of molecules. The different spatial arrangements of atoms in molecules endow them with distinct properties, which are utilized in organic, inorganic, biological, physical, supramolecular and medicinal chemistry. The webinar will provide the students with a better understanding of the various aspects of stereochemistry at the master level such as chirality, enantiomers, diastereomers, ee, de, relative and absolute configuration, chiral centres, chiral molecules, different representations of chiral molecules, R/S and other notations, axial chirality, planar chirality, helicity, configurations, conformations, conformations of cyclic and fused systems, relationship between conformation and reactivity, Zimmermann-Traxler transition state, pericyclic reactions, stereoselective reactions and chiroptical properties including circular dichroism, optical rotatory dispersion, axial haloketone rule and octant rule.
