Workshop on Condensed Matter and Materials Science on 20– 22 September, 2019 @ C-MET Thrissur
Condensed Matter and Materials Science is the branch of science that studies the properties of the large collections of atoms that compose both natural and artificial materials. This field has played a key role in the technological advances that have changed the world dramatically over the past 50 years. For example, the invention of transistors and semiconductor chips have led to the extensive use of data storage, telecommunication, mobile phones, GPS, blue-ray players, etc. In this way, almost every aspect of our daily life has benefited from research in condensed matter and materials science. This field combines the knowledge and tools of physics and chemistry with those of engineering to understand and optimize the behaviour of various materials at various length scales as a function of different parameters. The research in this field is primarily focused to explore fundamental physics of bulk as well as low dimensional materials, design and development of new materials for next generation applications. The workshop aims at bringing together new ideas, problems and prospects of condensed matter physics with special focus on materials science. Topics will be covered by invited lecturers, which are chosen from the advanced areas, such as magnetism and magnetic materials, piezoelectric materials, aerospace materials and their applications as novel functional materials. Progress in condensed matter research is driven largely by various characterization techniques. Progress in condensed matter research is driven largely by various characterization techniques. The workshop includes sessions presenting advanced techniques used for studying and manipulating matter. A lab visit is also included in the program. Experts in the respective fields will lead the lectures in the above mentioned areas.
