Integrated Rural Technology Centre (IRTC) is an autonomous research and development institution founded by the Kerala SastraSahithyaParishad (the pioneering People’s Science Movement) and a grant-in-aid institution of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). IRTC envisions the upliftment of the underprivileged sections of the society through knowledge sharing, appropriate technology transfer and skill development. The institution intervenes to meet the new age challenges and find sustainable solutions in the sector of solid waste management, watershed development, energy management, local planning and livelihood. IRTC has played a pivotal role in handholding the local self-government institutions across the state through their project implementation and consultancy support for preparing Detailed Project Reports for various developmental programmes. IRTC has extensively involved in research, innovation and extension activities to empower the marginalized communities across the state. It has also marked its footprints in the areas of women and child development with the collaboration of national and international agencies such as WHO, UNICEF and UNDP.
Community Agrobiodiversity Centre (CAbC) was established in 1997 at Wayanad district of Kerala, as one of the regional centres of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Chennai, India. The Centre was established to promote community conservation systems of rural and tribal people through research, extension and advocacy. Centre works in partnership with rural and farming communities for sustainable agricultural and rural development. The activities are designed in such a way that promotes a pro-nature, pro-poor, pro-woman and a pro-livelihood orientation to technology development and dissemination. Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has recognized the Community Agrobiodiversity Centre of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation as one of the Grant-in-Aid institutions. The support was extended mainly to strengthen the agrobiodiversity initiatives of the Centre across Kerala state. This includes research and extension services for building models on the conservation and sustainable utilization of agro-bioresources of the State. The support for the Centre has confined under five different heads of accounts that are Community Agrobiodiversity, Wild Biodiversity, Climate Action towards adaptation, Sustainable Village Development and Community Knowledge & Skill development.
Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Center is an Institution Sponsored Jointly by Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment(KSCSTE) and Cochin University of Science and Technology. The objective of this institution is to assist the Industries, R&D organizations and Higher Education Centers by providing highly sophisticated testing and calibration facilities, material analysis facility, R&D support, consultancy services and training programs. The Calibration Laboratories of STIC are equipped with modern calibration instruments and standards that are traceable to National Standards. These laboratories are accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). STIC offers calibration services for Electro-Technical, Thermal and Mechanical parameters. The calibration services of STIC are made use of by industries, R&D Organizations and other Calibration Laboratories, mainly from South India. The Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF) of STIC is a facility for Researchers, Students and Industries who require Highly Sophisticated Analytical Instruments for Chemical, Atomic and Spectral Analysis of materials and chemical substances. This facility is sponsored by Department of Science and Technology Government of India. SAIF in STIC is the 12th such facility in the country. STIC takes up R&D projects in the field of Instrument Development, and other support R&D work for Industries and Research Institutions. STIC also conducts occasional Training Programs/Seminars/Workshops in the areas of Instrumentation, Calibration, Analysis, Quality Management etc.
In recognition of the contributions of the legendary Indian mathematician, Sri. Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Union Government of India in 2012 had decided to celebrate December 22, birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan, as the National Mathematics Day every year. The basic objective of celebrating National Mathematics Day (NMD) is to spread the message of importance of mathematics for the development of humanity. Various initiatives are encouraged to enthuse, motivate and inculcate a positive attitude to learn mathematics among the younger generation of the country. Capacity building of teachers & students through training/ camps in Mathematics, development, production & dissemination of teaching learning materials (TLMs) for Mathematics and research in related areas will be a priority. Procedure Proposals in the prescribed format are generally invited in the month of October every year through advertisement in KSCSTE website and dailies. National Science Day is observed to mark the novel discovery of Raman Effect by the great Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman on 28th February, 1928. The basic objective of observation of National Science Day is to spread the message of importance of science and its application among the people. KSCSTE is co-ordinating the State level activities in connection with the observance of National Science Day. Procedure Proposals in the prescribed format are generally invited in the month of December every year through advertisement in KSCSTE website and dailies Applications are invited from Govt., Govt. aided institutions (Colleges, University departments and R&D institutions) to conduct NSD 2025 celebrations. Feature The programs will be organized based on a theme announced by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India every year. Introduction Kerala Biotechnology Commission has initiated the Bioentrepreneurship Certification Programme with the aim to attract students who have completed UG/PG courses in Biotechnology and allied subjects towards entrepreneurship; by providing them the knowledge about the entire venture creation process, from ideas generation to build viable innovation driven businesses and mentoring them to have their own ventures. KBC partners with biotech-based startups / industries in the state in conducting the programme. Eligibility Students who are pursuing or have completed the under graduation / post–graduation course in Biotechnology and allied areas in kerala are eligible to apply. Features The programme is conducted in three levels: Bio-entrepreneurship Basic Certification (BBC) course This is a one-day programme with a maximum of 4–hour duration. This programme offers an exposure to basics of bioentrepreneurship, its requirements, productization and marketing, investment, and the business sustainability etc. Based on a 30-minute course assessment test, a maximum of 10% of the total participants will be selected to attend the second level course. Bioentrepreneurship Advanced Certification (BAC) course This a one-week programme, which mainly focused to teach the detailed information about Innovations/Novel applications; problem solving options; prototyping; product; market plan, investment plan and future plan strategy to aspiring student entrepreneurs. This programme provides the participants, direct interaction with experienced mentors, on different aspects of bioentrepreneurship. There will be a 30 minutes pitch assessment test; selected participants will be provided an opportunity for the third level industrial certification course. Bioentrepreneurship Industrial Certification (BIC) Course This is a one-year programme that offers to provide an exposure on the entire venture creation process, from ideas generation to building viable innovation driven business. The selected students from the first two-levels will be enrolled to the one-year Bioentrepreneurship Industrial Certification (BIC) Programme with a stipend of Rs. 20,000/- per month offered by KBC for one year year bioenterpreneurship training in the partnering industry; the convenience fee @ Rs. 25,000/- per candidate will be provided to the industry by KBC. The candidate is expected to acquire necessary skills and training by the end of the training period to have own ventures / to get placement in biotech industries.
