The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) extends a warm welcome to Dr. K. K. Ramachandran on assuming charge as the Executive Vice President, KSCSTE.
A distinguished marine geologist with over 37 years of scientific research and science administration experience, Dr. Ramachandran has made significant contributions to earth and environmental sciences. His exemplary leadership as Scientist and Group Head at the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) and his dedicated service as Member Secretary of KSCSTE and the Kerala State Coastal Zone Management Committee reflect his unwavering commitment to advancing science, sustainable development, and public policy.
We wish Dr. Ramachandran every success in his new role as Executive Vice President. We look forward to his visionary leadership in strengthening Kerala’s scientific ecosystem, fostering innovation, and driving impactful research for the benefit of society.

🐍 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐚

The Kerala Biotechnology Commission (KBC), KSCSTE, in association with the EIACP PC Hub Kerala, successfully observed World Snake Day 2026 at KSCSTE Headquarters, Sasthra Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram.
The programme, themed ” 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐚: 𝐀 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞,” brought together students, researchers, and experts to promote awareness on snake conservation, snakebite prevention, and the One Health approach.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Saji Gopinath, Executive Vice President, KSCSTE, and presided over by Dr. P. Harinarayanan, Member Secretary, KSCSTE.
Technical sessions by Smt. Deepthi Mohan, Beat Forest Officer, Rapid Response Team, Palode, and Dr. R. Dileep Kumar, Snakebite Management Researcher and CEO, Indriyam Biologics Pvt. Ltd., highlighted the importance of snake conservation, human–snake coexistence, and biotechnology-driven approaches to snakebite prevention. A key highlight was the release of the “Illustrated Guide to Common Snakes of Kerala,” prepared by Dr. R. Dileep Kumar under the Snakebite Management Initiative of KSCSTE, EIACP PC Hub Kerala, and the Kerala Biotechnology Commission.
The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session moderated by Er. Arjun Prasad, Senior Scientist, KSCSTE, followed by the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sherin B. M., Senior Scientist, KSCSTE. Together, we move closer to a Zero Snakebite Deaths Kerala through science, conservation, awareness, and collective action.

വായന വാരാചരണം 2026 – 2026 ജൂൺ 25, ശാസ്ത്രഭവൻ

കേരള ശാസ്‌ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക പരിസ്ഥിതി കൗൺസിൽ ലൈബ്രറി & ഡോക്യൂമെന്റേഷൻ സെന്ററിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ വായന ദിനാചരണം സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. കെ.എസ്.സി.എസ്.ടി.ഇ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് വൈസ് പ്രസിഡൻ്റ് പ്രൊഫ.(ഡോ.)സജി ഗോപിനാഥ് വായന ദിനാചരണം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. കെ.എസ്.സി.എസ്.ടി.ഇ മെമ്പർ സെക്രട്ടറി ഡോ. പി. ഹരിനാരായണൻ അധ്യക്ഷ പ്രസംഗം നടത്തി. കവിയും, അധ്യാപകനും, ആശാൻ സ്മാരക അവാർഡ് ജേതാവുമായ എൻ. എസ്. സുമേഷ് കൃഷ്ണൻ മുഖ്യപ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. സാഹിത്യത്തിലെയും, കവിതയിലെയും വാക്കുകളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തെയും, അർത്ഥത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് വളരെ നർമ്മരസത്തോടെയുള്ള പ്രഭാഷണമായിരുന്നു. വായനയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം, വായന നമ്മെ എങ്ങനെ സ്വാധീനിക്കുന്നു? നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ നന്മയെ സ്വാംശീകരിക്കാൻ വായന എപ്രകാരമാണ് ഇടപെടുന്നത് എന്നെല്ലാം വ്യക്തമാക്കുകയും വായനയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം വിശദീകരിക്കുന്ന “തോണിയാത്ര” എന്നകവിത അവതരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഭാഷാ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് റിസർച്ച് ഓഫീസറും, എഴുത്തുകാരിയുമായ ശ്രീകല ചിങ്ങോലിയും മലയാളകവിതകളെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു പ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. കെ.എസ്.സി.എസ്.ടി.ഇ സീനിയർ സയൻ്റിസ്റ്റ് അർജുൻ പ്രസാദ് സ്വാഗതവും, ലൈബ്രേറിയൻ സഖിലേഖ. എ കൃതജ്ഞതയും പറഞ്ഞു. കേരള ഭാഷാ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിന്റെ പുസ്‌തക പ്രദർശനവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

National Technology Day 2026 – TechTouch – Beyond Vision on 13.05.2026 at ICFOSS, Thiruvananthapuram

As part of the National Technology Day 2026 celebrations themed “ Responsible Innovation for Inclusive Growth,” Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment organized an Inclusive Technology Training Programme for visually impaired students in collaboration with International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) at ICFOSS, Karyavattom.
The programme introduced students to the latest mobile applications and smartphone technologies that support education and daily living. Participants also received hands-on training on assistive educational devices developed by the Assistive Technology Department of ICFOSS, including Braille learner tools, periodic table models, maps, place value learning aids, electronic configuration tools, and more.
The initiative highlighted the importance of accessible and inclusive technology in empowering students and ensuring equal learning opportunities for all.
As part of the National Technology Day observance, KSCSTE has also been conducting a series of programmes including Industry–Academia Bridging initiatives, webinars on translational technologies, and open house programmes at national-level institutions.

KSCSTE EEP State level Thematic Competitions held on 12.05.2026 at Thiruvananthapuram

KSCSTE’s Environmental Education Programme (EEP) State-Level Competitions were held with enthusiastic participation from students across Kerala.
The valedictory function was presided over by Prof. A. Sabu, Member Secretary, KSCSTE, who highlighted the urgent need for environmental protection and the crucial role of youth in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.
Prof. Achuthsankar S. Nair, former Head of the Department of Bioinformatics, University of Kerala, delivered the valedictory address, emphasizing the importance of scientific awareness and responsible use of technology in tackling environmental challenges and shaping sustainable lifestyles for future generations.
Prizes and certificates were distributed in the presence of Dr. C. Anil Kumar, State EEP Programme Coordinator & Chief Scientist, KSCSTE, Dr. P Harinarayanan, Chief Scientist, KSCSTE, Sri S.R. Bhadran, former Graphic Designer, Doordarshan and Dr. Vishnu M, Junior Scientist, KSCSTE.

National Technology Day Celebrations 2026 – Panel Discussion, Faculty Demo Day & Tech Café on 11.05.2026 at Thiruvananthapuram

The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), in collaboration with Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), organized the Faculty Demo Day & Tech Café on 11 May 2026 at the Centre for Management Development, Thiruvananthapuram. The event served as a focused platform connecting industry stakeholders with high-potential, market-ready faculty innovations.

The programme started with the release of the innovation compendium by Shri. C. Balagopal, Founder Terumo Penpol and Prof. A. Sabu, Member Secretary, KSCSTE, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring industry and academic leaders. The discussion included C. Balagopal representing industry and Dr. Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor, Digital University, Kerala and Executive Vice President of KSCSTE, representing academia. The session was expertly moderated by Shri. Anoop Ambika, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission, fostering meaningful conversations on technology, innovation, collaboration, and strengthening industry-academia linkages.

Faculty demo
The programme aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing a platform for researchers to present their patented technologies directly before industry representatives. Eight presentations from universities and R&D centres created meaningful opportunities for collaboration, technology translation, and industry-academia partnerships, paving the way for innovation-driven growth and real-world application of research outcomes.

Tech Cafe

The “Tech Café” session provided a dynamic networking platform for direct interaction between industry representatives and academicians. Industries were given the opportunity to engage in one-to-one discussions with researchers and faculty members whose innovations were featured in the programme compendium. The session facilitated meaningful exchanges on technology transfer, collaboration opportunities, and potential industry applications, creating a valuable space for connecting innovative research with real-world needs.
