Science Education Centre

Introduction Science Education centre aims to improve the quality of science teaching and learning in the State through providing opportunity for students and teachers to self-design and perform hands on experiments. The programme also aims at creating a platform for promoting innovation in science among the students. a) Sasthra Sameeksha is a programme conducted every year for school students during summer holidays in association with a science and technology institution in Kerala. The programmes are being organized in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. Procedure for Application Applications are generally invited in the month of March/ April every year through advertisement/ press release in dailies and websites of respective S&T institutions. Features Each programme encompasses interactive sessions by eminent scientist/academicians followed by activity oriented session. The programme is aimed at fostering an early interest among high school students towards science through conduct of several scholarly competitions, regular science education workshops, science camps and various research participation opportunities for motivated students. Introduction A scheme to provide financial assistance for conducting Two-Day Workshop on “Research Methodology, Writing Practices, Language and Soft Skills” for young scientists. Engineering Support & Co-ordinated Research for Specially Talented children (ESCORT)

Introduction KSCSTE has instituted this scheme, Engineering Support & Co-ordinated Research for Specially Talented children (ESCORT), to provide engineering and technological interventions to nurture and provide necessary support for the differentially abled children in Kerala.  Students with impairment are likely to have more problems and difficulties in sensory, cognitive and psychiatric areas and also suffering in physical strength and other health-related challenges. The scheme support projects to carryout research in the area of Technological Aspects in disability studies and provide necessary engineering oriented technical interventions to develop implements to aid and assist physically or mentally challenged children. Based on the recommendations of the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC), research grant will be provided to the selected projects for a maximum duration of 2 years. Procedure for Application Project Proposals will be invited through notification in the website of KSCSTE, once in a year. The Proposals can be submitted through online only on notification and during the active time. Proposals submitted in any other mode will not be considered and summarily rejected. Features Maximum research grant of Rs.10 lakh is provided for carrying out the research for a maximum duration of 2 years. Grant will be given for specific projects to cover expenditure on Manpower, Consumables, Equipment, Travel & Contingencies. The research grant for the implementation of the project is released through the Implementing/ Tie-up Institution. Implementing/ Tie-up institution is eligible for an overhead @ 10% of total expenditure subject to a ceiling of Rs.50,000/-, on successful completion of the project and after the settlement of the SE&UC. Technology Festival (TECHFEST)

Introduction Technology Festival (TECHFEST), is an annual technical programme for encouraging and promoting the innovations from Engineering Students in the State. The Programme is a mega technological event which showcases the technological innovations/inventions developed by the Engineering Students in the State. The Programme provides an opportunity for the talented engineering students to exhibit/demonstrate their innovative products. Industry sponsored tech-fun events are also arranged as part of TECHFEST. Procedure for Application Applications for participation in TECHFEST are invited once in a year usually in August – October. Students can submit the applications in the prescribed format through the Head of the Institution. Selection of projects under the ‘Contest’ category and ‘Exhibition’ category of TECHFEST will be made by the Screening Committee. Technology Development & Adaptation Programme (TDAP)

Introduction Technology Development and Adaptation Programme (TDAP) is instituted by KSCSTE to provide catalytic support for developing innovative and need-based technologies, upgradation of existing technologies, resulting in a product and preferably ending with demonstration in commercial environment. Rural Technology Programme (RTP)

Introduction Rural technologies are technologies developed by/ arising from the rural sector or has direct applications to the rural sector, which can be upgraded and perfected for wider applications and employment generations in the rural sector. The scheme Rural Technology Programme is instituted to encourage and promote rural and grass root innovations by providing financial assistance and technical support to develop traditional/rural technologies or upgrade the existing technologies so that it could be perfected for wider applications and employment generations and to reduce the drudgery of the rural households. This scheme supports the grass root innovators in developing and perfecting their innovative ideas in rural technology sector. Introduction Rural Innovators Meet (RIM) is an annual programme of innovators for encouraging and promoting the unorganized rural and grass root innovators engaged in the development of rural technologies. Rural technologies are technologies developed by/ arising from the rural sector or has direct applications to the rural sector, which can be upgraded and perfected for wider applications and employment generations in the rural sector. Introduction Intellectual Property Rights Information Centre Kerala (IPRIC-K)’ established vide Govt. Order (No.5/2018/S&TD, dated 29.11.2018) is the Nodal Agency of the Kerala State for all the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) related services and matters. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Youth Challenge Programme

Introduction This programme targets the youth in the State for taking up challenges in specialized areas which are relevant to the State. Any youth below 30 years of age and a permanent resident of Kerala can apply. Challenge areas will be identified and posted before the youth. Youth can submit proposals on these areas only through the portal. Generally up to 10 best proposals will be provided maximum ₹5 lakhs grant for developing the prototype/working model. After proto development, the best Innovation among them will be awarded with ₹ 50 lakhs, along with technical support/guidance in developing the technology based on the proposal.
