KSCSTE – National Mathematics Day Celebrations 2025 @ Loyola College of Social Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram

National Mathematics Day Celebrations on “Mathematics, Art & Creativity” The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE), in association with the Departments of Data Science and Department of Fintech & AI at Loyola College of Social Sciences, celebrated National Mathematics Day 2025. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sunil Thomas T., Director of ICFOSS , and presided over by Prof. A. Sabu, Member Secretary of KSCSTE. Dr. Sabu P. Thomas, SJ, Principal of Loyola College, welcomed the gathering , which included a diverse group of school and college students, faculty, and participants from various departments. Key felicitations were offered by Prof. Saji P Jacob and Prof. Gabriel Simon Thattil. During the event, Professor E. Krishnan (Retired Professor, University College, Thiruvananthapuram) presented a fascinating narrative on how the value of π (Pi) was defined and refined across different generations and geographical boundaries. Prof. Achuthsankar S. Nair demonstrated how mathematics breathes life into music and other daily experiences and emphasized that mathematics is not merely a set of calculations but a creative force integrated into every aspect of life, from rhythmic patterns in music to symmetry in nature. The programme successfully inspired students and faculty alike to view the discipline through a more artistic and creative lens

Condolences – Prof. V K Damodaran (Member, State Council & Executive Committee, KSCSTE)

The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Prof. V.K. Damodaran, a pioneering scientist, visionary leader, and passionate advocate for sustainable energy. His untimely departure is a great loss to the scientific community and to all those who had the privilege of working with him. As a key member of the KSCSTE State Council and Executive Committee, Prof. V. K Damodaran was instrumental in guiding the Council’s initiatives, helping shape the future of science, technology, and environmental sustainability in Kerala. His leadership and forward-thinking approach were central to advancing renewable energy solutions and driving impactful science programs in the state. Prof. V. K Damodaran also served as Director of the Science, Technology, and Environment Department, where he played a crucial role in shaping Kerala’s scientific landscape. His commitment to the environment, innovation, and sustainability was unmatched, and his work continues to resonate globally. An exceptional academic and communicator, Prof. Damodaran’s contributions went beyond research—he was a bridge between complex science and the wider community. His tireless efforts to promote clean energy and environmental consciousness will inspire future generations. The KSCSTE expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Prof. Damodaran’s legacy will live on through the lasting impact of his work and the many lives he touched.

Seminar “Eugene Garfield and the Science of Scientific Communication on 22 October 2025, 10:30 a.m.@ Sathra Bhavan

A seminar titled “Eugene Garfield and the Science of Scientific Communication” was held on 22nd October 2025 at Anna Mani Hall, KSCSTE, to celebrate a monumental legacy—the 100th birth anniversary of Eugene Garfield, the visionary father of citation indexing and a global influencer in bibliometrics and scientific communication. The event was inaugurated by Dr. E. Shaji, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, University of Kerala and the session was chaired by the Dr. K P Vijaya Kumar, Former Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala.
